Monalisa Touch Q & A

What is MonaLisa Touch?

MonaLisa Touch uses CO2 fractional laser technology to rejuvenate your vagina. The treatment is noninvasive, quick, and effective.

It addresses vaginal symptoms associated with the hormonal changes due to menopause including:

  • Dryness
  • Laxity
  • Thinning tissue
  • Painful intercourse
  • Mild urinary incontinence

Menopause that occurs as a natural part of the aging process can cause these symptoms. In fact, about half of all menopausal women report experiencing them. MonaLisa Touch can also help if you develop these symptoms after a hysterectomy or chemotherapy.

How does MonaLisa Touch work?

The laser energy naturally increases circulation and lubrication to improve your vagina’s natural function. It also stimulates the production of collagen, a skin-strengthening tissue, to improve the firmness and thickness of the tissue and restore health. More than 18 research studies support the benefits of MonaLisa Touch, and many patients call the treatments “life-changing.”

What should I expect during a MonaLisa Touch treatment?

During treatment, you don’t need any topical anesthesia or sedation. Dr. Anderson inserts a probe into your vagina and gently applies it to the vaginal wall tissue. The session lasts less than 10 minutes and causes a slight warmth, but is not painful. If you feel any discomfort or unpleasant sensation, Dr. Anderson can offer an anesthetic cooling cream to reduce any pain.

Is there any downtime following MonaLisa Touch treatment?

There is no downtime necessary after treatment. You can resume your regular daily activities – even return to work or moderate workouts. Dr. Anderson does suggest that you refrain from sexual activity for two to three days after the procedure.

How many treatments of MonaLisa Touch are necessary?

Dr. Anderson recommends you undergo three treatments spaced about every four weeks over a 12-week period. You may notice results after just one treatment, but you’ll get optimal vaginal improvement after all three. You’ll benefit from a yearly follow-up treatment, too.
